Cookie Policy
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies MockTheory uses, what they do and how you can control them. Last updated: 3 October 2026.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They let the site, or a service it uses, recognise your browser on later visits. Similar technologies, such as local storage, store information in your browser in a comparable way. In this policy, "cookies" covers both.
Under UK law (PECR), we only use cookies that aren't strictly necessary – such as analytics and advertising cookies – if you agree. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice, and you can change it at any time.
The cookies we use
1. Strictly necessary
These are needed for the site to work and can't be switched off in our settings.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Consent cookie (set by our cookie banner) | Remembers your cookie choices so we don't ask on every page | Up to 12 months |
Local storage keys starting mt: | Saves your last and best quiz and mock test scores on your device. Never sent to us. | Until you clear them |
| Security and load-balancing cookies (if set by our host) | Keep the site secure and running smoothly | Session or short term |
2. Analytics
If you agree, we may use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site so we can improve it.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells different visitors apart | Up to 2 years | |
_ga_<ID> | Keeps track of your session | Up to 2 years |
3. Advertising
MockTheory is funded by adverts from Google AdSense. If you agree, Google and its partners use cookies to show ads that are more relevant to you, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. If you don't agree, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which may use limited cookies or local storage for things like frequency capping and fraud prevention where the law allows.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads, __gpi | Ad delivery, frequency capping and measurement on this site | Up to 13 months | |
__eoi | Security and fraud prevention for ads | Up to 6 months | |
IDE (doubleclick.net) | Personalised advertising across websites | Up to 13 months |
Google and its partners may set other cookies, and their names and durations can change. See Google's own list in how Google uses cookies and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
How to manage cookies
