Free Mock Theory Test 2026
50 questions, 57 minutes, pass mark 43, just like the real car theory test. Free, no sign-up, with a full topic breakdown at the end.
How this mock theory test works
- 50 questions drawn at random from all 14 topics, so every mock is different.
- 57-minute countdown. The timer turns amber at 5 minutes and red at 1 minute, and the test ends at zero.
- Flag and review. Flag tricky questions and jump back to them from the review grid, as you can in the real test.
- Pass mark 43. Your result shows pass or fail, your score and how long you took.
Tip: leave "Show answers as I go" switched off for real exam conditions. Switch it on when you'd rather learn as you go.
After your mock
Your results break your score down by topic, weakest first. Tap "Revise this" next to a weak topic to go straight to its practice quiz, then review every answer with an explanation and a Highway Code reference. Your best score is saved on your device, so you can watch it climb without an account.

Want a fixed set of questions you can retake? Try mock test 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. To practise one subject at a time, go to car theory test practice and pick from the 14 topics.
Get the most from each mock
Treat each mock like test day: find a quiet spot, switch off notifications and finish in one go. Then spend as long on the review as you did on the test. Read the explanation for every wrong answer and practise that topic before your next mock. When you pass several mocks in a row with a few marks to spare, you're ready to book.
What the real test adds
In the real multiple-choice part, 3 of the 50 questions are about a short, silent video. After a break of up to 3 minutes comes hazard perception: 14 clips, with 44 out of 75 needed to pass. Practise it with our free hazard perception test. When you're passing mocks consistently, book your theory test on GOV.UK.
